Bloomsburg Falls to Mansfield in Women's Basketball

MANSFIELD --The Bloomsburg University women's basketball placed two players in double figures, but it wasn't enough as Mansfield University rallied for a 66-51 win Wednesday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match-up.
The Huskies took the early 7-0 lead in the game on the strength of four points from Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven). Mansfield rallied and tied the game at 15-15 with 11:59 to play in the half on a layup from Emily Akins. After the Mounties increased the lead to five points, 22-17, the Huskies five straight points from Kelly Burkhart (Sayre/Athens) to tie the game at 22-22 with 4:11 left in the half and later went into halftime knotted at 28-all.
In the second half with 11:22 to play, the Huskies took a two-point lead, 37-35 after a made free throw from Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West). That would be Bloomsburg's last lead as Mansfield went on a 18-3 run over the next seven minutes to go in front 53-40. Leading the Mansfield rally was Becky Ayers and Alison Tagliaferri with six points each.
The Huskies would get no closer than 10 points the rest of the game and ended up with a 15-point loss.
Burkhart led the way for the Huskies, now 6-17, 3-7 in the PSAC East, with 16 points, while Kait Urban (Johnstown/Westmont) scored 10.
Mansfield, 10-14, 5-4 in the PSAC East, got 19 points and 13 rebounds from Tagliaferri, while Ayers finished with 12.
The Huskies host Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday at 3 p.m.
